Proof of relationship (super visa)
Plain-English definition
Proof of relationship is the document showing that a super visa applicant is the parent or grandparent of the host in Canada. IRCC accepts a copy of the host's birth certificate or baptismal certificate naming the applicant as parent or grandparent, or another official document that names the applicant as the host's parent or grandparent.

Where this applies: Super visa (federal).
How it works
IRCC states: “You must prove that you’re the parent or grandparent of your host. We accept the following documents as proof:” and lists two options.
The first is “a copy of the host’s birth certificate or baptismal certificate”. The second is “another official document naming you as the parent or grandparent of your host”, which helps when records use different naming conventions or a birth certificate is not available.
A document that is not in English or French needs a translation submitted with the original.
Why it matters
The relationship is the basis of the whole super visa. Choosing the right document early, and translating it properly, avoids a request for more information later.
